We all have a beginning, small or large. As business owners, we can sometimes get so caught up in the hustle and bustle that we forget our audience's desire to be a part of the journey. Have you forgotten to market your humble beginnings? The majority of audiences or customers are buying into you or the brand’s identity. Don’t forget to share why and how you started. Humans are inclined to storytelling. Sharing your humble beginning can turn a viewer into a loyal customer who spreads the good news about your business.
Read about Thornton Prince’s humble beginning; his story sparked a movement in Nashville. He wouldn’t know his starting point would set the flame to the domino effect of today’s flavor trend: hot chicken.
Thornton Prince, a black man from Nashville, Tennessee, was known for being a womanizer. One day, a lover would attempt to strike revenge by adding every hot ingredient she could find in her home to set fire to Prince’s mouth. However, her plan backfired as Prince loved the chicken so much that he shared it with his brothers. Prince later mimicked the lover’s recipe and opened ‘BBQ Chicken Shack’, one of the first restaurants noted for Nashville’s Hot Chicken. Today, ‘BBQ Chicken Shack’ is ‘Prince's Hot Chicken’, run by his great niece. Almost 100 years later Prince’s journey to entrepreneurship is a compelling story that drives a part of the marketing.
Today I ask you what is your humble beginning. What does your audience not know about your starting point that would make them fall in love with you or your brand? I’m sure you’re swept away to a place of gratefulness. Share those moments with your audience and customers. It is an authentic way to build trust, loyalty and engagement. Trust, loyalty and engagement strike the most profound marketing tool to ever exist: word of mouth.
During The Great Depression, Prince chose storytelling as one of his tools in the marketing toolbox. Storytelling is a way to capture your audience or customers' attention. Did you know all films use the same formula? So, should be the same for your business. Don’t reinvent the wheel. Just share your journey! At Juice Creative Solutions, we believe in imaginative storytelling.
